Edmond’s OU Medical Center Opens New Birth Center

Celebrating the long awaited re-introduction of Labor and Delivery
services to Edmond calls for quite a party, and OU Medical Center Edmond intends to show off its new
arrival with two events on September 15, 2011.

Community members will have the opportunity to tour the new My Birth Center on Thursday, September 15th between the hours of
11:30 am to 1:30 pm and again that evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Both events will
feature tours of the newly completed floor and information about the unit and
the team involved.

However, each event will have unique activities and atmospheres to
highlight the hospital’s history of delivering babies within the community and
celebrate the return of these services to Edmond. The facility’s very first
patient in 1947 was a woman in labor and the hospital delivered babies until
1998, when the previous unit closed. My Birth
Center is a four year effort on the part of the facility to bring this vital
resource back to the city.

This history within Edmond as well as a look into the future of the
hospital will be the highlight of the earlier event, along with an official
ribbon cutting, a light lunch, and guided tours of the unit. Dr. Michael Glass,
OBGYN, and Barbara George, RN, will speak of the historical significance of
Labor and Delivery in Edmond while hospital CEO Jordan Herget and Dr. Brant
Buchinger will offer a glimpse into the future of OU Medical Center Edmond.

The evening event will feature a festive atmosphere for attendees to
tour the unit at their own pace as well as enter into drawings for baby gear
and other fabulous prizes. Popular radio hosts Drew and Kaci from KISS FM will
broadcast live from the event and Cupcakes to Go-Go will provide celebratory
treats for the group. Additionally, participants in the evening event will have
the opportunity to meet with the physicians and staff caring for mothers and
their newborns, learn the proper way to install a car seat with Safe Kids
Coalition, and discover pre-and-post-baby fitness routines. Attendees can also
find out the latest trends in maternity and baby clothing and accessories from
local Edmond stores.

Parking for both events will be available at the Second Street entrance
of the hospital. Visitors can then enter through the South Entrance and access
My Birth Center on the third floor from the elevators located in this entry
area.
