Weed Free Lawns

Beautiful lawns may look alike, but each one is unique. Weed Free Lawns works with every client to develop the best plan for their specific needs. A sister company of Nelson Landscaping, the Edmond-based business has been helping customers keep their lawns in peak condition since 2013.

Beyond Weed Control

“It’s important to have a successful turf management program if you want to achieve a healthy lawn,” says manager Bradley Lake. “We provide that program. It’s a joint effort between us and the customer, and communication is the key.”

Weed Free Lawns offers complete turf management, including weed control, pre-emergent, fertilization, and more. Beyond showing up with spray guns a few times a year, Brad and his team are committed to educating customers about maintaining beautiful lawns.

Customers work with the same licensed technician every time. Technicians check in with customers at each visit, and if issues come up between treatments, Brad and his team respond promptly to messages.

Brad understands the demands of lawn care in our climate. “We’re in a transition zone,” he says. “That means we can grow several varieties of grass, but it also comes with a plethora of weeds.” Whatever challenges your lawn is facing, Weed Free Lawns has the solution.

A Partner Company of Nelson Landscaping

Weed Free Lawns is affiliated with Nelson Landscaping, one of the area’s largest landscaping companies. Nine years ago, owner Andy Nelson split the turf management arm into a separate business. His wife Kiersten ran Weed Free Lawns until she became pregnant, and then they decided to bring in another manager.

Employee Josh Smith encouraged Andy to consider Brad for the job. Andy was unsure, since Brad had no industry experience, but he hired him to work at Nelson Landscaping on trial—and was immediately impressed by his deep commitment to customer service.

“He’s all about giving back,” says Andy. “He has an incredible work ethic. He pours himself out.” Brad has managed Weed Free Lawns since 2015.

A Tradition of Service

Brad grew up in the Luther area, where his grandfather owned a landscaping company. Brad enjoyed helping in the business but chose a different career path, serving in the Air Force and then achieving excellence as a waiter and restaurant manager. Eventually he took a food-service sales position. When the company was bought out, he began seeking a different path. That’s when Josh introduced him to Andy Nelson.

“I believe God called me to this,” he says. “I wanted to take care of customers the way I did in food service.” He’s studying horticulture at OSU-OKC and is passionate about delivering the best lawn care possible.

“You’re getting more than a turf management program,” he says. “You’re getting a team of experts not just to provide services, but to provide information and guidance. We pride ourselves in taking care of our customers.”
