Crosstown Traffic

More collisions occur in August than any other month. More collisions occur between 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. than any other time. “Most collisions are non-injury. There were more “rear end” collisions, by a high majority than any other type,” said Claudia Deakins, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Edmond.

The City of Edmond has 87 signalized intersections, 21 school zones, and also maintains over 5,000 streetlights. Over 95% of the signals have LED lights, which allow the City to save over 75% per intersection on electrical consumption.

The City of Edmond maintains approximately 20,000 road signs. The signs are made with the brightest material available.

Stay Sharp this Summer

“Reading is the foundation for all academic subjects, so go to your local library and check out books that your children are interested in,” said Eric Allenbach, owner of Club Z In-Home Tutoring Services. “Studies show that children do regress during the summer months, so we need to do what we can to not only maintain their grade levels, but if possible get them ahead.”

Myths of Fitness

You should not eat before exercising. “I like to tell people ‘you are like a cell phone’. If you look at your phone and it has one bar left on it, are you going to call your talkative friend to wish them a happy birthday? Probably not, more then likely, you are going to charge it for awhile first. Your body is no different,” said Michael Buzman, certified member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Cheerleading

Edmond was well represented in the world cheerleader competitions, sending two teams, Twist & Shout and Cheers & More. This was the first time Cheers & More made the competitions, while Twist & Shout made their fourth straight appearance. Twist & Shout finished second in the finals, just a few points behind Spirit of Texas, from Arlington.
