Making a Difference

Fall is in the air, and the ladies of Edmond Women’s Club are extending their hospitality with a preview party of “This New House 2006” on October 27. Local merchants will feature unique wares to accent home decorations by area designers and twenty-five percent of all proceeds from the sale of featured items, including furniture, window treatments, jewelry, and hand-made throws will go back to the community through the charity’s active volunteer efforts.

“Not only will you be able to tour this beautiful home and shop the boutique, but there will be a fabulous party and dancing to the sounds of the band, ‘Souled Out,’” said club member and committee chair, Tracy Sadler.

Live music and catered food are elements for any wonderful evening, but the added excitement of a drawing for a 2007 Mercedes C230 is sure to make this a memorable event for the lucky winner.

Edmond Women’s Club is a non-profit organization composed of more than 225 busy mothers and career women. The club paired up with builders, Don Walters and Jill Horton, who helped make the party possible by lending a space that would host guests and serve as a showcase for emerging businesses and interior design talent.

The Edmond Women’s Club has collected more than $2.3 million since its founding in 1983, the majority through donations and fundraisers, all of which has been returned to the city’s residents through Edmond’s own relief agencies like the Hope Center and Breakfast on Boulevard.

However, members do more than just requisition funds and attend meetings. Club regulations stipulate that they also volunteer their time at sponsored agencies. Whether it’s handing out children’s clothes at U R Special’s Back to School Day or making a weekly commitment to Edmond Mobile Meals, the women rearrange already hectic schedules to improve the neighborhoods in which they work or live, one day at a time.

One of Sadler's favorite club event is the annual meeting in May at which selected recipients–single mothers and most recently, single fathers– receive grants and scholarships from funds garnered throughout the past year.

But the preview party event is also high on Sadler's favorites. In fact, her ten-woman committee single-handedly coordinated all the details for the preview party, including the recruitment of participating businesses, ticket sales, and publicity surrounding the house preview.

Located at 21730 Villagio Drive, (? mile west of Portland Avenue on Coffee Creek Road) the $1.3 million house will be open to tours by the general public from November 4 through12. Afterwards, the house will be on the market.

Save the date, Friday, October 27, from 7-11 p.m., for the upcoming preview party. Admission tickets are available through a variety of Edmond retailers for $50, which includes dinner and drinks. Subsequent tours in November cost $10 in advance, or $12 at the door. The Mercedes will be on display at North Park Mall during the second week of October, and raffle tickets, limited to 700, are now on sale for $100 at locations listed below.
