Hobby's Hoagies

Over the years, one place has remained the same—a place that has always served up delicious food. That place is Hobby's Hoagies, family owned and operated since 1991.

Kim Nixon, co-owner, moved to Edmond from Wilmington, Delaware with her father George and the rest of her family.  After being here for a while, they felt something was missing.

“We noticed that we couldn't find anywhere that made the hoagies that we were used to back East,” Nixon said. “After my father began to make and sell hoagies for many of his co-workers, we decided that we would open up our own shop.”

They opened a restaurant with the goal of being completely unique. “Each day we bake our breads from scratch,” said Nixon. “We also use the freshest meats, chesses and vegetables, which we prepare each day. But what really makes the hoagies are the fresh cherry peppers that we have shipped in from Delaware.”

Italian, roast beef, turkey, ham and tuna are just a few of the hoagies available. “Our most popular is the Philly Cheesesteak sandwich,” Nixon said. But not to be outdone is the Reuben on rye. “We have had people in our shop from New York and from Chicago that have had our Reuben and told us that they were better than the hoagies they could get back home.”

Great hoagies are not the only items available at Hobby's Hoagies. Each day they prepare homemade dough for their pizzas. The sauce is a family recipe and the finest toppings are always used. Potato, pasta and chef are just a few of the salads that are prepared each day. A variety of soups are also available.

“Some of our desserts include cookies, lemon bars and TastyKakes. If you have never had a TastyKake before, I suggest you come in and have one,” said Nixon. Another popular dessert is Italian Ice, a low calorie, non-dairy treat that comes in thirteen flavors.

Meat, cheese, fruit and sandwich trays are available through Hobby's Hoagies catering. Open seven days a week and located in the Oakbrook Shopping Center at the corner of Santa Fe and Second Street, the owners of Hobby's Hoagies say one basic principle holds true. “We have the best hoagies in all of Oklahoma. Come in and we'll prove it to you.”

Nanda Orthodontics

Picture yourself savoring the taste of fresh-baked cookies or a sweet ice cream bar or quenching your thirst with a selection from the fully stocked juice/hot chocolate bar. You might expect to enjoy this atmosphere at a community event or party. You wouldn’t expect however, to receive such royal treatment at the orthodontist office… unless you are a patient at Nanda Orthodontics.

In February, Dr. Ruchi Nanda opened the doors to her brand new Orthodontic practice located across from Rose Creek in Edmond. Patients here not only enjoy the snacks and treats, but the fun and innovative office environment helps patients relax.

After practicing Orthodontics in Southern California for 25 years, Dr. Nanda decided to return to her roots in Oklahoma. Since moving here it has been her goal to actively promote her modern orthodontic practice to patients and her community with the genuine care and comfort of her patients as her highest mission.

Her state-of-the-art office includes digital image and x-ray equipment, braces and wires made with material that promotes shorter treatment and less pain. The use of light high-technology shape-memory wires move teeth faster, requiring fewer adjustments.

“I strive to provide treatment with personalized care to each patient and strive for my service to be presented in an on-time, low-stress environment without having patients waiting for their appointments,” Nanda said. “I’ve created and implemented a well-conceived and thought-out computerized appointment and treatment system that supports these efforts… this allows our staff to provide quality care that is consistent, on time and responsive to patients’ wants, needs and desires.”

Dr. Nanda’s practice philosophy and treatment goals favor treatment with minimal extractions of permanent teeth and development of beautiful full tooth smiles.

“Conventional treatment often requires removal of healthy teeth and/or the use of palatal expanders to make space. This approach is often uncomfortable, takes longer, and can leave a narrower arch and a flat profile,” said Dr. Nanda. “I prefer to use the non-extraction approach using the Damon and other self- ligating braces. I believe in smiles that are full, natural 10-tooth smiles achieved with light biologically-sensible forces that are specifically designed to improve the overall facial result of each patient.”

By applying light forces, Dr. Nanda finishes straightening the teeth in less time using minimal extractions, surgery or expanders. It is her goal to maximize patient comfort and she selects braces that are discreet, comfortable and easy to keep clean. Dr. Nanda uses titanium and ceramic braces and appliances with rounded edges and low friction causing the teeth to move more freely, faster and more comfortably with minimal need for headgears, and bulky bands and expanders.

“We live in a very image-conscious society and impressions are made within a few seconds. Straightening teeth makes a difference and can ultimately make or break your chances of getting certain opportunities,” she said.

Nanda Orthodontics treats adults, teens and children and offers clear and metal as well as Invisible Braces for her patients. A “Dr. Nanda smile” is more than straight teeth-it’s a gateway to greater self-confidence, a better self image, personal and professional advancement and a new and better image.
