New York Philharmonic: A Fantastique Introduction

The first public performance will include Hector Berlioz’s dream-like work Symphonie fantastique. Additionally, the Philharmonic will perform Jean Sibelius’ abstract Concerto for Violin and Orchestra, Op. 47, featuring the super-virtuoso playing of soloist Frank Huang, concertmaster.

New York Philharmonic: How Legends Begin

Joining the Philharmonic on stage to sing her favorite selections from Bernstein is Tony award-winning soprano Kelli O’Hara. Also on the program is the overture to the humorous operetta Candide and Prokofiev’s vivid and exuberant score for Shakespeare’s most often adapted work.

UCO Alumni Association's Winterfest

Winterfest will be held at Arctic Edge Ice Arena in Edmond on Thursday, Dec. 20 from 7-9 p.m. We will have private access to the west ice rink, also known as the “Broncho Barn.” In addition to ice skating, we will have special guests Buddy Broncho and a few players of the UCO Hockey team, UCO merchandise for sale from Barnes & Noble and complimentary cookies and hot chocolate. Oklahoma Flute Fair

The Oklahoma Flute Society is proud to present the 25th Annual Flute Fair on March 9 & 10, 2019 at the University of Oklahoma Catlett Music Center, with guest artist Keith Underwood. Join us for a weekend of events including classes, concerts, workshops, and exhibits from leading flute professionals and businesses. This year's Fair also includes our annual Solo & Ensemble Festival for middle and high school students as well as performances by the Honor Flute Choirs. Admission to the Fair is free to all Oklahoma Flute Society members. To become a member or to find out more about the Flute Fair, visit: www.oklahomaflutesociety.org Events will start at 8am on Saturday and conclude after the Honors Recital at 4:30pm on Sunday. The guest artist recital will be held at noon on Saturday in Pitman Recital Hall. This concert along with the Gala Recital and the Honors Recital will be free and open to the public. Exhibitors will be open on Saturday 9am-5pm and on Sunday 9am-3pm. This event is funded in part by the generous support of the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts. Underwood serves on the faculties of Mannes School of Music, New York University and Queens College. Each year he travels internationally to Japan, Mexico, Italy, Brazil and London to teach workshops and perform. Underwood’s students hold positions with America’s major orchestras including the the Boston Symphony, the Cleveland Orchestra and the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, to name just a few. Globally, his students are members of orchestras in Italy, Japan, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. Students from all over the world travel to Keith’s studio on the Upper West Side of Manhattan for lessons, especially when an important audition is pending. As a performer, Underwood has appeared with New York’s most prominent musical organizations including the New York Philharmonic, New York Chamber Symphony, the Orpheus Ensemble, the Orchestra of St. Luke's. He is solo flutist with the Parnassus and Musical Elements, Jazz Antiqu, the Arcadia Baroque Ensemble, Ufonia and the Riverside Symphony. Underwood has recorded with such diverse artists as Benjamin Verdery, Celine Dion, Kathleen Battle, Rod Stewart, Bobby McFerrin, and Anthony Newman. He appears frequently on the David Letterman Show. About the Oklahoma Flute Society The Oklahoma Flute Society was created to benefit anyone who loves the flute, and offers learning and performance opportunities for students, teachers, and professional players. Founded in 1994, OFS is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting flute study and performance in Oklahoma while also encouraging camaraderie among flutists and the highest standards of pedagogy and performance. The OFS sponsors numerous events each year, including the annual Flute Fair, Solo and Ensemble Festival, Members’ Recital and Honor Flute Choir events. Recent guest artists have included Molly Barth, Joshua Smith, Flutronix, Nicole Esposito, Greg Pattillo, Christina Jennings, Ann Fairbanks, Tadeu Coelho, Patricia George, Catherine McMichael, George Pope and Marianne Gedigian. Also committed to promoting new repertoire for flute choir, OFS commissions and premieres include Ray E. Luke’s Sonata for Flute and Piano (1999), Catherine McMichael’s Salt of the Earth (2004), Grace Wiley Smith’s Oklahoma Landscapes (2007), Samuel Magrill’s Serenade for Flute Choir (2008), Cynthia Folio’s Quintlexia (2013) and Nicole Chamberlain’s Asphyxia (2016.)
