A LOOK Back: Statue of Liberty
Edmond area Boy Scouts and city officials commemorate Edmond’s replica Statue of Liberty at 2nd Street and Boulevard on February 10, 1951. As part of the Boy Scouts of America’s 40th anniversary celebration, scouts nationwide raised funds to purchase replica Statues of Liberty for their communities. The campaign, themed “Strengthen the Arm of Liberty,” resulted in nearly 200 stamped-copper statues being installed across the country between 1949 and 1952. Edmond’s statue was relocated to Liberty Park in 1978, returned to its original site in 1991, and moved to the Edmond History Museum in 2007 due to deterioration. An exact replica now stands at 2nd and Boulevard.
